Police Chief Michael Botieri changes tune on vigil now re-scheduled for tonight 630pm at Brewster Gardens

Yesterday, Police Chief Michael Botieri told Wicked Local Plymouth that he “received [information] through police agencies indicating the possibility of a group of agitators descending on the peaceful gathering Wednesday night” but as of Wednesday afternoon the Chief now says “he believes the event will be peaceful and does not think businesses and residents in the downtown area need to fear any vandalism or looting afterward”.

The Chief did not give any reason for his reassessment of the threat level. Botieri plans to speak tonight at the Brewster Gardens event, sponsored by Indivisible Plymouth and the Plymouth League of Women Voters.

Yesterday Wicked Local reported the Chief “said he received calls from dozens of downtown businesses and residents who expressed fear and concern that their homes and businesses could be targeted by vandals”.

Plymouth No Place for Hate still plans on hosting a virtual vigil on PACTV tonight also 630pm.

Floyd vigil cancelled, organizers blame threat from “white supremacist groups”, not Antifa

Plymouth No Place for Hate, organizers of a “peaceful protest and vigil” to support the Black Lives Matter movement has cancelled an event scheduled for 6:30pm this evening in Brewster Gardens. The announcement of the cancellation came via a post on the Facebook page of the Old Colony Memorial and stated that the vigil was being cancelled due intelligence information received by Plymouth Police “regarding the organized outside agitators (white supremacist groups)”. That post has now been edited to say only “regarding the organized outside agitators appearing in towns across our nation.”

Antifa, a far left organization, has been widely suspected as contributing to looting and violence during and after peaceful Black Lives Matter demonstrations since the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis .

A virtual vigil will now be hosted on PACTV tonight at 630pm.
